Music Playing Philosophy & Policy

The decision to have a dance sometimes raises concerns for school officials, teachers, and dance organizers: in relation to the disc jockey’s performance and selection of music. In an effort to communicate what you can expect, I submit this music playing philosophy and policy.

FX Unlimited plays primarily top 40 hits, country and other popular music. I use a combination of years of experience and requests to customize the music at your event.

“Today’s” music many times may contain sexually oriented, violent, inappropriate, and “questionable” lyrics. One must realize that if we were to pick apart every current hit of “today’s” music one might find up to 90% of them having questionable or offensive lyrics. What one person may find offensive, or implicit, can many times be a matter of opinion, personal taste or interpretation. I get all of my new music from the same companies that supply it to the radio stations, therefore, I always have the “clean” (FCC approved) radio edits of new music.

Through experience and interaction with school officials and teachers since 1989, I have listed a couple of specific songs below that are obviously questionable for a student setting. I will not play the following music or type of music in a school setting without the express consent of sponsors:

1. “Mony, Mony” - by Billy Idol

2. “The Cotton Eyed Joe” - by various artists

3. Any Song: obscene, sexual, or violent in nature that has NOT received airplay on public radio, or that the Disc Jockey determines using his judgment not to play.

I am there to please you, the client, and you have the final say. If a particular song bothers someone, kindly let me know and I will change the song as quickly as possible. If a particular song is not to be played, please communicate the specific song to me prior to the performance.

I strive for integrity in all that I do. It is my goal to please all of my clients and to bring the highest quality performance to your school or organization.
